Cables and mounts
Cable length and camera placement are the same decision. Work out where the camera has to be first, then choose the cable and the mount to suit.
Runs should be as short as the venue allows. Every extra length of cable is another opportunity for a problem, and it is also something to trip over during a quick changeover.
Choosing a mount
- A tripod for positions that change between shows
- A fixed mount for a camera that stays in one place
- Longer reach mounts for angles above or beside the stage
- Secure mounting in public areas where a camera could be knocked
A camera mounted at the wrong height is a framing problem before it is a hardware problem, so it is worth standing in the audience rather than looking at a monitor at the desk.
