Cameras

Choose the right camera

The right camera is the one that covers your space at the distance you can actually place it. Start from the room, not the spec sheet.

Camera choice is mostly about geometry. A wide shot from the back of a large room cannot be matched by a camera at the front of it, and no amount of processing changes where a camera can physically be mounted.

Questions to answer before choosing

  • How far is the camera from what it needs to see?
  • How bright is the stage, and how dark is the house?
  • How many angles does the show actually need?
  • Where can the camera be mounted or placed?

Budget is best spent on the number of angles that cover the show properly. Two cameras covering every shot the production needs will beat four cameras that are mostly in the way.
